What is the Course?

The Sonic Futures & Create Talent technical skills courses are 10 week hands-on course teaching the skills necessary for a career based in live events covering:

• Audio basics
• Lighting basics
• Counterweight flying
• PPE, tools and manual handling
• Ladder training
• Setting up and maintaining drum kits
• Setting up and maintaining guitars 

Who is it for?

• For anyone interested in working in live events production who is aged 18+ and lives in the Tees Valley or North East Combined Authority areas.
  Tees Valley: Darlington, Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, Redcar & Cleveland
  North East: County Durham, Gateshead, Newcastle, Northumberland, North Tyneside, South Tyneside
  

What do students need?

• Availability for sessions - the course leaders will contact you before the course begins, to confirm the dates with you and answer any questions you have
• Means of getting to and from the sessions (whether on public transport, car, bike etc)
• Eagerness for hands-on practical learning

How are students assessed?

• Through practical demonstrations of learned skills during venue sessions
• By submitting basic summaries after each session, recounting what you've learned
• By meeting attendance expectations

What will students ascertain?

• The practical skills required to work as crew in live events production
• The basic skills needed to pursue training in specialised live events production roles, such as mixing live audio, operating lighting desks etc.
• Direct connections to venue technical managers for paid crew opportunities
• Free safety work boots, required for almost all live events production roles
